The tradition in the old country farmsteads was to plant a tree in the middle of the courtyard, to give shade in the long and sunny summer days. Lo Zoccolaio tree is a great white poplar, grown up with a double trunk. The double tree harks back to the inverted tree of the Jewish and Indian tradition, which has roots in the spiritual dimension and raises its imposing foliage in the reality, in the known world.
It is the tree of life, or of the knowledge of good and evil. The graphic sign that distinguishes the labels of the farmstead Lo Zoccolaio, in Barolo, comes from these recollections and suggestions.
